Monstera Care Guide

Monstera albo and Thai

Soil

Monstera Albo or Thai requires an airy, well-draining growing medium to thrive. However, you may create a perfect mix by combining coco coir, orchid bark, and perlite at a 1:1:1 ratio.

Fertilizer

Your Monstera Albo or Thai will require a bit more nutrition than a Monstera Deliciosa to produce its gorgeous, variegated foliage. It will benefit from monthly feeding from a balanced, liquid fertilizer during the warm growing season. Do not feed during fall or winter, and be careful not to overfeed, as this may lead to chemical burn. Your plant may also benefit from added nutrition during potting or repotting from a natural fertilizer such as worm castings.

Watering

These tropical plants are susceptible to root rot if overwatered, so it's important to let the soil dry slightly between waterings. You should rewater your Monstera Albo or Thai after the top 1-2 inches of soil has dried. Watering frequency may be reduced in winter. Ensure that you do not overwater your Monstera Albo. I use a water meter so that takes out the guessing.

Light

Your Monstera Albo or Thai will require lots of bright indirect light to keep it happy and vibrant. You should provide your plant with a minimum of 6 hours of light daily. However, keep in mind that this plant is extra sensitive to direct light due to its variegation. Conversely, if you do not provide this plant with enough sunlight, it will lose its variegation.

Temperature & Humidity

This tropical plant will thrive if kept in warm, humid environments. Therefore, it would be best to strive to keep your plant between 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and at least 60% humidity. As this plant requires above-average humidity to flourish, you should add extra humidity by installing a humidifier or pebble tray. It can however survive in a lower humidity between 40-50%.
